In the limits below, notice that the majority of ducks are sprig. These photos were taken when the bag limit included seven pintail.

As we all know, now when you shoot your one allowed sprig, all you can do is sit and watch hundreds of sprig bomb your set-up at 15 yards!!!!

If the limit was seven sprig, would the last three seasons have been so unpredictable?

It's me, Lonny, after a great morning with Justin in the wood duck blind?

SEASON OBSERVATIONS

It was a quite interesting waterfowl season.  The hunting was hit and miss.  The weather cooperated a tad then completely blew the birds out of the country the final two weeks of the season.  The birds ended up in the Yolo bypass and S.F. Bay.

One thing for sure you can never get a handle on this duck hunting as a science with 400,000 acres of water in the valley.

You've heard all this before describing my commercial hunting club business but more and more I just can't get a grasp on dealing with hunters ethics and techniques.  Not that there bad, just everyone is different.  We already knew everyone was unique, so I'll just stop there.

I had hunters give up blinds this season I never thought would become vacant.  Just goes to show what a strange season it was.  We had about half the birds of  last season.  They got here late and left early, but that depends on who you talk to.

Our superior club this season was the Sutter Bypass.  As a whole it has done well in the past but not near the best.  One blind on Farris the guy had his best year, the birds fed his field for a month.  He nailed them.  He also gave up this blind.  I just don't get it.

One group shooting the dry in Minasians after the first rain nailed the ducks till they left and did well on geese all year.  I should print these emails but I don't know whether permission is needed or not.  These guys are definitely coming back.  Same with the group on the Kono.  They had all their members there that north wind weekend they claim they had the best shoot they ever had in California.  They are also returning.

Evans Riemer did ok but way too much pressure if you'll notice we cleaned house and changed the shooting rules on suggestion (DEMAND) from the land owner.  We have about 1000 acres of the 4500 acre ranch.  We border the entire east side of Gray Lodge then have a private refuge to east of us that the landowner has created.

Enough said.  Everyone's different.  Happy hunting.
