Buyer Beware, When Purchasing Decoys

I usually buy ten to twelve dozen decoys per year to keep my spread presentable.

In 2005 having a good year financially I bought 50 dozen decoys from Long's.

They gave me a good price and were a mixture Flambeau, G & H, and a couple dozen Green Head.  They were water keel and weighted keel.  Teal and some spectacular wigeon.  The mallards and wgeon were weighted keel Flambeau.  They were new style with the cross bottom and paint jobs I didn't think Flambeau was worthy of.

Well check out these pictures, they weren't worthy.

After being out less than two weeks several sunk and the paint was peeling off literally coming off in chunks.

I went back to my storage container and found a couple of new boxes of mallards that hadn't been used.  Opening the box I couldn't believe what I saw.  As I turned the decoy around, the bottom and sides had spots that were already peeling.

Fresh still in the box, never even hit the water and the paint was coming off in chunks.

Never went back to Long's, but I did talk to Pat at the Sportsman's Den in Chico and she said, "Flambeau will stand behind their decoys to the point of replacement."

I should have done something but I didn't.  But the lesson was well learned and I won't shine it on next time.
